課程概述	課程編號:102 23190 二十世紀英國文學班級: 02 教師: 齊東耿課程概述 Course Description The course is a survey of British literature of the twentieth century. Unfortunately, given the length and difficulty of many of the major prose texts of British Modernism, we will have to neglect key works by Forster, Galsworthy, Ford, Joyce, Woolf and others. Instead, we proceed more or less chronologically from Hardy at the turn of the century, and focus on short fiction and poetry, although we will also read a major play by Stoppard. 評量方式 Grading Attendance: 5% Short assignments: 15% Midterm exam: 35% Final Exam: 45%
課程目標	課程目標 Course Objectives The aim of the course is the introduce students in the lectures to the cultural and historical context of Modernist literature in England (more or less). The idea is to focus on key texts (and passages within texts) with an eye to literary form, tradition, and close reading, but also to place these texts in the larger cultural climate that gives them meaning, that is, what is called Modernism. Students should get a good sense of what this might actually mean as far as British literature is concerned.
